
The Karnaphuli River is one of the most challenging environments for underwater operations in Bangladesh. Strong inside currents, heavy vessel traffic and massive sediment movement make the water extremely murky, often reducing underwater visibility to just a few centimeters. These conditions make it difficult and sometimes impossible, for divers and conventional underwater cameras to perform reliable inspections.
To evaluate its real-world capability, Dubotech deployed the Octopus 2.0 in the Karnaphuli River for a series of field missions. The objective was simple, find whether the system could operate effectively where visibility is almost nonexistent and water currents are so strong.
Octopus 2.0 s completed inspection missions. Using advanced navigation sensors such as the DVL, the vehicle maintained stable movement and proper control even in river currents. In areas where the camera's visibility was limited by suspended silt, the optional imaging sonar allowing operators to continue the mission with confidence.
The field trials show that underwater visibility is not always the biggest challenge, water current is. Maintaining stability, accurate positioning, and safe maneuvering against strong currents requires a highly capable propulsion and control system.
